Braided Wire Ring with Umut Demirgüç Thurman

In this workshop, participants will learn the techniques to create a handcrafted braided wire ring. The session will cover essential skills such as measuring ring sizes accurately, braiding wire using a vise, and soldering to secure the design. Copper wire will be provided for the class, but attendees are welcome to bring their own silver wire if preferred. Soldering experience necessary.

Umut Thurman is a metalsmith and enamelist. She works internationally, teaching and regularly exhibiting her work. Currently, she is teaching jewelry and metalsmithing at the University of North Texas while coordinating workshops at the Denton Maker Center. She received MFA from the University of North Texas in Metalsmithing and Jewelry in 2005, and BFA from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul, Turkey in Textile and Fashion Design in 1997.
