Crafting Ostu-e Omamori (Oni Protection Charm) with Crystal Garrett

  • Denton Maker Center 728 North Elm Street Denton, TX, 76201 United States (map)

In this workshop we will create a small Otsu-e Omamori charm to hang near the entry of your home. We will first wood burn and paint the wood and then use cord to create a traditional Japanese omamori knot to hang the charm. This workshop will cover basic wood burning techniques and how to make smooth lines as well as how to correct mistakes when they occur.

My name is Crystal and I am currently studying art history at UNT. I’ve been wood working a little over 10 years. I have tried to carve out my own unique style with a blend of wood burning and Japanese wood block printing. I am happy to introduce pyrography to anyone who would like to learn this diverse and unique tool for their artist tool kit.
