Letterpress 101: Print your Own Bookplate! with Christine Adame

Bookplates are small paper inserts that label books in one’s personal library. The workshop will begin with a small presentation about the history of letterpress and bookplates. Students will learn the basics of letterpress printing by operating a small tabletop letterpress. The layout of the bookplate will be pre-set except for a small portion. Participants will get to customize their bookplate by choosing from a collection of symbols. They will then print the bookplate design in black ink on white paper. Workshop participants will take home up to 10 copies of their bookplates.

Christine Adame is an intermedia artist from Laredo, Texas. Her artwork is built from layered processes—including drawing, fibers, digital fabrication, book arts, and printmaking. Christine earned her B.S. in Architectural Studies from the University of Texas at Austin and an M.F.A. in Intermedia Studio from The University of Texas at Arlington, and currently teaches visual art at Texas Woman’s University.
