DMC Visual Identity:
The Denton Maker Center was created to support creative making. It is essential that every aspect of DMC embodies that mission. The visual identity of DMC is one way that this philosophy is clearly conveyed. Given the dominance of digital media, it is increasingly essential that the power of handmade is emphasized. The logo incorporating the hammer and anvil serves as a universal symbol of crafted creation. The silhouettes of these tools (and many other) have been created by James Thurman, digitally hand drawn from tools in his own studio. The specific primary color palette of red, yellow, and blue along with an underlaying gridded organization was taken from the inspirational and like-minded Movements of Bauhaus, De Stijl, and Suprematism. Other elements, such as the development and use of the in-house LEGO font and “Toolvetica”, further underscore DMC’s mission as a place of Creativity and Making.
